The Importance Of Rythm During Labor

Stress Free Pregnancy - Susana Lopes

The Universe is made of rhythm, everything in the Universe moves and vibrates in different rhythms. One of the characteristics of the physiological birth is also its rhythmic nature, acceleration and deceleration, of increase and decrease intensity of the uterine contractions, like the rhythmic waves of an ocean. This rhythm is determined by internal and external factors that influence the mother and her baby. It is therefore individual and unpredictable.

During labor, three hormones are released: oxytocin that is responsible for contractions, endorphins that are a natural anesthetic in the body, and adrenaline that is released primarily by cold and fear. That's why we need to help the woman's body to produce more oxytocin and endorphin and less adrenaline.

The release of oxytocin occurs in quiet, calm and serene places that convey safety and tranquility to the mother. It is also produced when the mother feels loved and cherished. Hence the importance of a serene environment when labor is unfolding, just like what mammals do in the wild when they move away to a quieter place away from their normal environment.

Respecting this natural instinct, the mother can also resort to her own feminine nature, instincts, and intuition, with companions who should also know how to reinforce her confidence and love instead of receiving external stimuli that reinforce the mother’s rational side, linked to the neocortex.

The pain that accompanies the rhythm of birth is a powerful guide throughout labor stages in the process of opening her body to the birth of the baby, and during the time of delivery, assisting the mother by sending alarm signals to her body if something is not quite as it should.

The body of the expectant mother acts instinctively to the pain but can also be influenced by the woman who, aided by breathing and freedom of movement, can provide a more adequate response to her protection and the protection of her baby.

The mother can help herself by reducing her stress levels, returning to calmness and serenity after each wave of contractions, also providing tranquility to her baby, and relieving her own pain. The moments of pause between contractions are as important as their active rhythm, giving the woman also the opportunity to recover and rest.

After the birth of the baby the woman experiences intense feelings of ecstasy and happiness of the high levels of endorphins in her body, receiving her baby and increasing her unconditional love. These natural hormones will help both mother and abby to reinforce their intimate bond and connection for life.

After birth, between 5 to 10 seconds or up to 30 minutes to one hour later, it follows the expulsion of the placenta and the membranes forming the amniotic sac. The uterus contracts one last time and empties itself, thus beginning the experience of maternity, care and dedication to her baby.
